The First Dedicated Circus Venue at Edinburgh Fringe
Underbelly's Circus Hub, made up of a pair of domes – Freedome 300 and Freedome 700 – was the first-ever major venue dedicated to circus at the Edinburgh Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world. Underbelly Edinburgh's new 'moo-vellous' venue ensured that all visitors to the Meadows had a jolly good time. With its first-class line-up of 12 international shows, featuring European, UK and Fringe premieres and performers from across the globe, it created just the right setting for a thrilling circus experience.
Two Geodesic Domes: The Lafayette and The Beauty
The two vast geodesic domes, with a total base area of 989 m², were located on the city's Southside and given their own names after famous circus artists who had died in Edinburgh a century earlier: the Lafayette (750 seats) and the Beauty (250 seats). Packed with audiences, the white tents provided a unique opportunity to showcase spectacular circus performances spanning comedy, theatre, music and family shows, brought to life by masters of the stage.
