Custom-Made Domes for a Martian Film Set
The spherical dome structures used in the 20th Century Fox film The Martian were custom-made by Freedomes to fit the storyline. The action of The Martian takes place on the planet Mars, where Mark Watney (Matt Damon) fights for survival after a failed space mission. The spherical structures used in the film served as a human base on Mars, where the character lived and cultivated his own vegetable plantation.
From Film Production to New Dome Applications
The production of the structures and assembly work carried out by the Freedomes team on the film set in Jordan and at the studio in Budapest coincided with the development of our new products. This resulted in two new product lines: F.Domes.Glamping and F.Domes.Grow, which were being launched onto the market at the time. These F.Domes spherical tents, designed for self-assembly, had applications similar to those shown in the film. They could serve as outdoor living pods and glamping (glamour camping) accommodation (F.Domes.Glamping) or as greenhouses for growing organic vegetables and fruit at home (F.Domes.Grow).
